Mary L. Waltari, a partner of Battaglia & Waltari, has been a practicing attorney for
over 23 years graduating magna cum laude from the University of San Diego School of law. She
has B.A. in Financial Services from San Diego State University. After a long career in business
and securities litigation, she turned her focus to special needs planning, estate planning,
conservatorships, probate, and trust matters. She counsels and represents family members as well as private fiduciaries, corporate trustees and attorneys to establish and administer court-
created special needs trusts.
She is a frequent speaker to both professional and private groups on estate planning,
special needs trusts and conservatorships. Mary is a contributing editor to the CEB publication
on Special Needs Trusts, Planning, Drafting and Administration. She is a member of the Special
Needs Alliance, a national organization of select attorneys who specialize in disability and public
benefits law and who advocate for changes in the law. She is also a member of the San Diego Bar
Association, Estate Planning Council of San Diego and Probate Attorney’s of San Diego. She
has been a strong advocate, board member and volunteer for adaptive sports organizations
including adaptive soccer, wheelchair sports and therapeutic horseback riding.
